Several years ago I watched an edition of Star Trek whose plot involved a tonic or potion that had been developed to cause one to become young again. Volunteers were sought. An older Commander of a Star Trek Space Ship volunteered to drink the concoction. It began to take effect in only days. But, as its effect progressed it ceased causing the body to get younger, but continued causing the inner organs to become younger and younger. Eventually the old man could no longer stand the effects of the "youth elixir" and he went into convulsions and started dying. There was no known antidote. Family was called in at once. The old Commander asked to see "my beautiful wife with the golden hair." She came and whispered lovingly to the Commander, "My darling, I am no longer young, but am also old and gray like you." As he died, the Commander responded with, "But, I only see the golden hair."

This sad science fiction reminds me of the God we worship and our Lord Jesus Christ. Total forgiveness was promised when a person accepted Jesus Christ into their lives as the Lord and Savior.  There are some who question the feasibility of an "all powerful" God being able to forgive and forget in the process of redemption. Because He is all powerful, they ask, how can he possibility forgive?

I have chosen to start this devotional with Psalms 103:12 - "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."

Isaiah 44:22 - "I have blotted out , as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins; return unto Me, for I have redeemed the."

Isaiah 55:7 - Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly forgive."

Matthew 7:18 - Who is a God like unto Thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retaineth not His anger forever, because He delighteth in mercy."

Isaiah 43:25 - "I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins."

It is human to declare: "I can forgive, but I can not forget." Only an all powerful God can remove our sins as far away as the east is from the west. That is a distance that no man-made instrument can measure. And no human can comprehend such forgiveness. Jehovah Jirah God whom we worship has the capacity to "chose to forget."  For this we should all praise God and be forever thankful that we worship a God, who, though He can not forget, has chosen to forget the sins of the redeemed.

Like the Commander who saw "only the golden hair", even so Jehovah God sees only the fact that we are redeemed and He only sees the Blood of the Lamb!  Praise God!!
