The Bible is the most loved, most hated, most sold, most banned book in the world. The Bible is composed of 66 books. It was originally written in several different languages, in different countries, over a period of about 1600 years, by about 40 different writers. These men differed in their positions in life. David and Solomon were kings; Daniel and Nehemiah were statesmen; Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah and Zachariah were prophets; Ezra was a priest; Amos a herdsman; Moses was learned in all the wisdom of Egypt and mighty in words and deeds; Paul was a converted Pharisee well grounded in Jewish law; Peter and John were uneducated, ignorant fishermen; Matthew  was a tax-collector and Luke was a physician.

Many of these men never saw each other, in fact could not have, as they were from different countries, different times, different classes and different complications of society. Each wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The Bible itself tells us it is "living and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword - - - - and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart". Hebrews 4:12. It is the "sword of the spirit". Ephesian 6:17. It is a "lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Psalms 119:105.

The Bible will never cease nor be destroyed. Jesus declared, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away." Matthew 24:35 (NKJV).

The final words of the New Testament were written over 2000 years ago, and Jesus' statement was no idle boast. Over two millenniums have come and gone, centuries have followed centuries, empires have risen and fallen and many have been forgotten; dynasties have succeeded dynasties; kings have been crowned and uncrowned; civilizations have changed and perished. But the Word of God stands! Emperors had decreed the Bible to be extermination. A. D. 303 Diocletian declared the scriptures as exterminated.

Centuries before Christ's birth, Daniel had declared that God's kingdom would stand forever. (2:44). Further, the apostle Peter states, ". . .the word of the Lord endures forever." (NKJV)

Constantine was the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity. He ruled from 306 A.D. to 337 A.D. Constantine offered a substantial reward for a copy of the scriptures. Within 25 hours 50 copies were presented to Constantine.

Voltaire lived in Paris, France 1694 to 1778. His goal was to eradicate the Bible from existence. He stated, "Within 100 years the Bible will be found only in museums." Within 100 years, the very press with which Voltaire printed his infidel literature, was being used to print the Geneva Bible!

I quote Dr. R. G. Lee, when speaking of the Bible said, "All its enemies have not torn one hole in its Holy Vesture, nor stolen one flower from its wonderful garden, nor diluted one drop of honey from its abundant hive, nor broken one string on its thousand-stringed harp, nor drowned one sweet word in infidel ink, nor made dim one ray of its perpetual light, nor stayed its triumphant progress by so much as one hour!"

Men may spurn the Bible, burn it, misuse it, seek to disprove it with their lexicons, mathematics, spades and prehistoric bones, but after they have said their final word, and lie down in death and their bodies crumbling back into the dust from whence it came, the Bible will still continue on undaunted with its heaven-gladdening, life-purifying, sin-smiting and soul-saving message.

Just a thought across the garden gate.
