“. . . WE ALSO THANK GOD WITHOUT CEASING, BECAUSE WHEN

YOU RECEIVED THE WORD OF GOD WHICH YOU HEARD FROM

US, YOU WELCOMED IT NOT AS THE WORD OF MEN, BUT AS IT

IS IN TRUTH, THE WORD OF GOD, WHICH ALSO EFFECTIVELY

WORKS  IN YOU WHO BELIEVE.” I Thess. 2:13 (NKJV)

I remember way back when I was a child, we played a game that has come down through the decades, by many names. As a kid, I knew it as GOSSIP.  Later I heard it called POST OFFICE, then about 50 years ago it was called TELEPHONE. No matter the name, all players sat in a circle. The first person whispered a phrase to the one to their right. The next person whispered the same phrase to the next one. And around the circle it went until it reached the last person – who then spoke it out loud for all to hear. Then the first person verbalized that which they had said, usually reading from a note.

It is not so different now, more than 70 years since I first heard the game played. Usually, by the time the story goes around a few times, it is nothing like the original. The “facts” tend to become distorted.

It is very comforting in knowing that the good news the apostle Paul preached about Jesus is the same message now as it was in the first century. The essential facts of His eternal deity, blessed incarnation, atoning death, glorious resurrection, ascension and His coming again, at the heart of our faith, is unchanged.

And the message hasn’t lost any of its original soul saving power, either. It still changes lives today, as it did for Saul on the road to Damascus, Acts 9, when he was encountered by the resurrected Christ, struck blind, and asked, "Who are you Lord?"

Ananias was sent by Jesus to Saul to bring him to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and restored Saul's sight, who later became the great apostle Paul.

Happy Thanksgiving 2016
