I am thankful for many things. Among them I am thankful for my health; for being born an American; for a nation built by our Founding Fathers on Biblical principles; freedom to worship God; freedom of speech; freedom of the press; freedom of peaceful assembly.

I am thankful for those brave souls who rode the Mayflower from Europe to start a new way of life and a new system of government in an unknown land. For them to tell the king of England, “We will no longer bow to you; we want to worship God after the dictates of our own hearts”, took courage and a defying spirit! We are at a time in history where courage and a new spirit are essential to the well-being of America and the Church.

I am thankful for our past Presidents who had and expressed faith in God and the Bible. I tremble as I watch the America I grew up in, that so many men and women gave their lives for, is slowly slipping away. It pains me that we now in America are not as free to worship and display our faith as we once were.

The under-girding of any great nation, is not the military, not the economy, not immigration, not any of a dozen other well designed and organized entities. The primary support system of our great nation for two hundred years has been high moral standards and standing for the Bible and the church.

God has always held a high standard for those chosen to lead His people. Some have stated that what a man or woman does in their private life has no bearing on their qualifications to be a leader in government or church. Look at Moses who was a man who intended to take the Israelite's directly into the Promised Land. He sent in 12 spies to feel out the land. Because 10 of them said “We cannot” the people were made to wander in the desert for 40 years until those ten were dead. However, the two who said, “With God we can”, were the only ones who lived to enter the Land of Promise. Morals and faith in God makes a distinct difference.

For decades America has had men who have said, “With God we will prevail”. Too many people in Congress do not have God in the front of their thinking. The time is now for us to turn our nation back to God. Christians and citizens in general need to be a “We can do it with God’s guidance” mentality.

GEORGE WASHINGTON, 1789, Inaugural Address – “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.”

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, 1787, Constitutional Convention – “I therefore beg leave to move that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning . . . “

THOMAS JEFFERSON, 1781, Note on the State of Virginia – “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; and that His justice cannot sleep forever.”

ABRAHAM LINCOLN, 1863, Proclamation of National Fast – “It behooves us then to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins and pray for clemency and forgiveness . . . . “

CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA May 1854, passed a resolution in the House which declared:

“The great vital and conservative element of our system is the belief of our people in the pure doctrines and Divine truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord . . . “ Psalm 33:12 - NKJV
