Hidden Fruit

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,

for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

II Timothy 3:16,17 (NKJV)

One of my favorite memories from my youth is on the family farm picking wild Blackberries. I loved standing in one spot while picking as many Blackberries as I could reach without moving on to the next spot or patch. Often I think of how I exhausted the supply of berries before me, as I was preparing to move on, I would spy the ripest, biggest and most luscious Blackberry yet. "How did I miss this one?" I would wonder. Of course, as I moved about and changed my view and how I stood, I would see that it was there all the time waiting to be picked.

In an amazing way, the same is true of God's word. I was easily bored, and if not careful could become complacent. Too many of us are inclined to think that after a few times of reading of scripture, that we have exhausted its meaning and how it relates to our daily lives.

Fortunately, to a degree, time and experience have changed my outlook on life. Now that I am on the waning edge of life, in my wife's and my daily prayer and devotion time, I find myself thinking, "Wow, how did I miss that?" I am always grateful and enriched for the new found insight. I now receive new meaning to Lamentations 3:23 - (NKJV) -

"Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed,

Because His compassions fail not.

They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness"

What new insights I gather from God's Holy Bible each day! Thanks be unto God above!
