Easter is such a beautiful season of our year! It would be wonderful if we celebrated the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord in conjunction with the time of the Passover. The reason being everything that happened from the time Christ rode triumphantly into Jerusalem to the day of His resurrection all corresponds to the Passover Feast, the Feast of Unleavened Bread and Feast of First of Fruits. The first day of Passover was a "High Day", John 19:31 (KJV) or "Special Sabbath" (NIV), which was an ANNUAL SABBATH, not to be confused with the WEEKLY SABBATH.
After that Passover was past Jesus resurrected and remained with His disciples another 40 days. How often have you heard someone say "Oh! To have been a fly on the wall" or "to have been a mouse in the corner", when something unusual happened. But, oh, not to be a fly or a mouse, rather, can you imagine the closeness, the state of ecstasy to have been present, in person, with our Lord during those 40 days! What would we have felt? What would we have seen? What would we have experienced? Certainly excitement, enthusiasm and adrenalin would have been at it's max!
What wondrous things must have occurred during those forty days, when to His own He showed Himself alive - forevermore! How their hearts must have burned within them when He opened the Scriptures and be given the revelation of the LIVING CHRIST! How natural, how easy were His manifestations! How silent as a Spring breeze were the footsteps of Omnipotence! One's heart would leap to hear His voice as did Mary. Oh, to have heard His voice, as did the fishermen on the shores of Tiberias, saying, "Come and dine!" Such indescribable glory to be in the presence of His OMNIPRESENCE! How truly would one's hearts would burn within them to hear the OMNISCIENT One show Himself, beginning with ". . . . Moses and ALL the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in ALL the Scriptures concerning Himself." Luke 24:27 (NIV) - emphasis added.
But, wait! We do have all this! He does speak to us daily within our spirits through the Holy Spirit. Did He not promise to send the Comforter when He left earth? John 15:26; 16:7, 8. (KJV) "Counselor" (NIV). Jesus walks with us daily and lives in our hearts, through the Holy Spirit. In every time and age God's people have found themselves in awe and rapture in His radiant Presence. Think of Abraham, in the night tending his alter fire; Moses on Mount Sinai; Isaiah in the temple; Peter and James on the mount of Transfiguration; John on the isle of Patmos; Peter and the other apostles on Pentecost.
Thank heaven, and praise His name, we can know His presence, knowing the Living God is among us - Joshua 3:10. Also he promised us ". . . I am with you always to the very end . . . " Matthew 28:20 (NIV). Many of us, we are told, ". . . have entertained angels without knowing it". Hebrews 13:2 (NIV). (KJV) renders this verse, ". . . some have entertained angels unawares." How reassuring to know He is always in our midst and that we may even at times entertain angels!!
How exalting and empowering it is to know that one day our eyes will be opened in a resurrected spiritual body and behold the riches of His glory as our inheritance, all because of the exceeding greatness of His power which Christ performed when God raised Him from the dead!
